WSD 2012 is a collaborative effort between the Forum of International Respiratory Socities (FIRS), and the European Lung Foundation (ELF).

FIRS is a partnership of the world’s leading professional respiratory organisations, including:

The Asociacion Latinoamericana del Thorax (ALAT)
The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP)
The American Thoracic Society (ATS)
The Asia Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR)
The European Respiratory Society (ERS)
The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union)
The Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS)

 

Each of these societies will play an active role in the WSD 2012 campaign by working with respiratory societies and patient groups in their countries to ensure a truly global campaign is acheived.

The ELF is the official coordinator of World Spirometry Day and will assist societies and institutions who wish to take part.

WSD Baton relay

World Spirometry Day 2012 was officially launched during the ERS Amsterdam Congress, with the spirometer-baton being passed from ERS President, Klaus Rabe, to the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) President, David Gutterman.

The spirometer will be passed in a world-relay style around the members of the Forum of International Respiratory Societies at their annual meetings until September 2012, to highlight the global scope of this campaign.
